The Church ruin in Østermarie
The old church in Østermarie is build between 1150 and 1200. it is unike in its construction, especially the roof, made of stones, and the fact that it is two-aisled, it is rather unusual.
It is sad that they began tearing it down about 120 years ago, because it was too small, it was stopped, when historicans found out that it was such an unike building.
One of the photos below is the new church. There are two photos of runestones on the church yard, they used runes on gravestones much later on Bornholm than in the rest of Denmark, so there are several Christian runestones.

It is so disheartening today to see what a disposable society we are living in - so little value placed on anything lasting more that a few months.
I appreciate so much seeing these old churches that have stood for so long. If only those stones could share their stories.
